On the morning of Tuesday May 12th, having only
known each other for several hours, the twelve of us plus Professor Ryan got
off of the plane in London. With at most a few hours of sleep under our belts,
we met with the group and were informed of the trip’s agenda in the St. Giles
hotel lobby. Before we crashed in our newly assigned rooms for a couple hours,
Dr. Mark Spokes (the assistant director for SU abroad) and Professor Ryan gave
us some insider knowledge on this big city with 32 boroughs that we are all new
too.
As we quickly learned when we
experienced it first hand, we were warned of the dangerously different style of
driving in London. Drivers seem to have more a “you better move” approach
rather than an “I’ll wait for you to move” approach. After exploring the area
for a couple hours, we got to know each other over a nice dinner at the near by
Spaghetti House. The group readily began to click, as we were all incredibly
excited for the weeks to come.
